Quetta blast leaves two policemen dead

QUETTA: Two policemen were killed and eight other people injured in a bomb blast here on Tuesday.

The explosion, which took place on Sariab Road in front of Balochistan University, also injured a five-year-old child and three police personnel. University students remained safe.

`The target of the blast was a police post located infront of the main gate of the university,` Police Inspector Mushtaq Ahmed said, adding that an improvised explosive device was used in the blast.

Police sources said that the IE D was planted when policemen deployed at the post had gone for lunch.

`Two policemen, who were on duty at the post, lost their lives and three others suffered injuries in the blast, Inspector Ahmed said.

According to the bomb disposal squad, `around 2kg explosive was used in the IED`.

The deceased policemen were identified as Muhammad Arshad and Tanveer Ahmed.
