THIS is apropos the news item `Bilawal wants merit-based selection of officebearers in PPP`s reorganisation` (April 30).
This is indeed a step in the right direction.
But same merit is needed in all the institutions of Sindh, including the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC).
There have been protests over favouritism and nepotism in the SPSC. The recently announcedresultofthe competitive examinations conducted by the SPSC has been challenged. The most disappointingaspect ofthe episodeis the Sindh government`s silence on this issue.
The Sindh government has not bothered to take action or probe the allegations.
Institutions like the SPSC are a ray of hope and aspiration for the majority of the poor people of Sindh.
An impartial, transparent and merit-based policy is essential for the growth of a constructive society in the province. If steps to ensure merit in SPSC examinations are not taken, it will lead to frustration in Sindh.
The PPP chairman should take notice of SPSC affairs. He should order to check the credentials of the commission`s chairman, secretary and members. An impartial judicial inquiry into the allegations to restore the confidence of the people is needed.
