2017-05-11
LAHORE: A contempt of court peddon has been filed in the Lahore High Court against Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Chairman Absar Alam for allegedly scandalising and trying to influence the judiciary.

A citizen, Munir Ahmad, filed the petition through Advocate Azhar Siddique pleading that Mr Alam had at a press conference earlier this week said Pemra was unable to work efficiently because of stay orders issued by courts. He had also said that higher courts had been granting stay even against the show cause notices issued by Pemra, the petitioner added.

Mr Ahmad contended that the chairman had degraded the country`s courts and tried to scandalise them. He asked the court to initiate contempt proceedings against Mr Alam for criticising the courts.-Staff Reporter
