Khyber journalists pay tribute to martyred colleague

By Our Correspondent 2024-05-11
KHYBER: Journalists on Friday paid rich tribute to their martyred colleague Nasrullah Afridi in connection with his 13th death anniversary.

Events were organised in the Bara, Landi Kotal and Jamrud press clubs, where tribal journalists eulogised the journalistic contributions made by Nasrullah Afridi during his almost a decadelong association with print and electronic media organisations.

They said Nasrullah had not only dedicated his life to professional and objective journalism but had also rendered commendable services in helping the poor and needy tribesmen of Bara in particular and Khyber in general.

They said the late journalist fulfilled his professional responsibilities in extremely trying conditions during militancy in most parts of Bara.

They said he was also attached to a number of social welfare organisations.

The speakers said Mr Afridi would not spare any opportunity to raise the voice of the oppressed tribesmen and convey their miseries to the government authorities in an objective manner.

`Nasrullah Shaheed was not only extremely sincere to his profession but he was also a brave and courageous journalist and always sided with the oppressed people,` a speaker said.

The participants of the events offered Fateha for his departed soul.

Nasrullah Afridi was martyred on May 10, 2011 when an explosive device fitted in his car exploded in Peshawar.

No group or organisation took responsibility of the incident. His death still remains a mystery, and the successive governments have also failed to conduct an impartial enquiry into his untimely death.
