Building design of Nowshera medical college approved

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has approved the building design of Nowshera Medical College and asked the relevant authorities to set up an autonomous board to run the new teaching hospital from its very beginning.

He also asked the health department to ensure 100 per cent provision of facilities and staff before commissioning the hospital and warned that no excuse would be accepted if any facility was found missing after opening of the hospital.

The chief minister gave the directives while chairing a meeting regarding affairs of the Nowshera Medical College and Teaching Hospital, at the GM House on Wednesday, according to a handout. The provincial secretaries of finanæ, health and communication and works depanments, special secretary to the chief minister, principal of Nowshera Medical College, the consultant of the project and other offiærs attended the meeting.

The participants were told that Nowshera Teaching Hospital was near completion and it would be inaugurated within next two months, while arrangements were being made to start the first academic session of the medical college by November next.

The chief minister asked the officials that functioning of the hospital must not be started until all required staff and facilities were provided. He said that instead of the government functionaries the new hospital be made functional under an independent management board that could run it in accordance with international standards.

Mr Khattak also directed the C&W department to complete the construction of the building of Nowshera Medical College within a year and strictly follow the provincial government`s policy in this respect. He asked the department to submit PC-1 of the project within a week and ensure provision of solar power system for emergency department of the hospital.
