Body set up to devise metro security plan

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has constituted a committee, comprising high ranking officers of the twin cities’ police and administration, to devise a security plan for the metro bus service.

A meeting was held here on Wednesday which was presided over by secretary, Punjab home department, and attended by inspectors general of police Islamabad and Punjab, besides senior police and administration officers.

The meeting discussed security-related issues concerning the bus service, and constituted a committee comprising IGP Islamabad, regional police officer, senior officers of the twin cities, including commissioner Rawalpindi and officers of police special branch.

The committee was asked to device a security plan for passengers, metro vehicles, and infrastructure, sources said.

At present there were 500 CCTV cameras installed at different places along the metro bus route and security guards and policemen deployed.

The official sources said recommendations had already been made to install fences at both sides of the route to prevent trespassing and install walk-through gates and scanners at every station.
