FEDERAL Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had, in his budget speech, announced the merger of two remaining ad hoc reliefs of 2009 and 2010 in the basic pay of government employees.
It will not be out of place to mention here that the ad hoc relief of 2009 had alreadybeen merged into the pay of employees in the 2016 budget.
In fact, the remaining ad hoc relief of 2016 was to be merged instead into the relief s of 2009 in the basic pay which was mistakenly not mentioned and nobody sitting in the finance ministry took notice of this ambiguity. Even at the post-budget press conference no clarification was given about this. This confusion has created resentment, unrest and anxiety among government employees.
The federal finance minister should look into the matter and the ad hoc relief of 2016 may be included in the basic pay.
Clarification in this regard should be issued by the ministry.
