PESHAWAR: Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar has announced to run two shifts for clearance of containers at the Peshawar dry port to ease the congestion.
According to a statement issued here on Saturday, the decision to run double shifts of clearance staff at the dry port had been taken on emergency basis because during the transporters strike in Karachi the transportation ofcontainershad been stopped.
It was stated that the space at the dry port was already very limited but the situation worsened when the transporters called off their strike and the containers started coming to Peshawar with such a speed that there was no sufficient space to unload the containers.
Besides, the containers have also started coming through the Goods-in Transit to Afghanistan (GiT TA) train from Karachi to Peshawar dry port which also caused shortage of space for the goods` consignments.
It was stated that a team of customs officials led by Collector Customs Peshawar Qurban Ali Khan visited the dry port and announced running double shif ts till June 30. He said with the new arrangements at least 50 containers could be cleared daily.
The collectors said efforts were also underway to make operational the old dry port at Aman Garh, Nowshera. Bureau Report
