No cattle death from1umpy skin in DG Khan division

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Since the breakout of the lumpy skin diseases this month, no death of cattle has been reported from the disease in Dera Ghazi Khan Division.

Divisional Diseases Investigation and Control Officer Dr Zaka Saeed said that of the 478 infected cattle in the four districts of the division, 392 have been recovered while the remaining are under treatment.

There is no truth in the reports of 30% of the cattle being infected in Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur and Layyah districts, he said.

In case any animal disease is reported in any area, ring vaccination is done within two to five kilometres of the sphere of the area while at present the department has enough stock of vaccines, Dr Saeed said.

Lymphatic skin disease has beenreported in oxen and cows. Cattle breeders should take special care to clean their cattle pens and enclosures to protect their cattle from the disease.

Dr Saeed said that with the vaccination of 12,850 cattle in Dera Ghazi Khan district, 48 out of 66 cattle had been recovered. Similarly, vaccination of 15,000 cattle has been completed in the Layyah district, while out of 123 infected cattle, 91 have been recovered.

Out of 232 sick cattle in Muzaffargarh district,196haverecoveredfromthe disease, while 15,450 large cattle in the district were vaccinated.

In Rajanpur, up to 5,450 cattle have been vaccinated and affected 57 cattle recovered.

Dr Saeed explained the disease is not transmitted from animals to humans. He also said that the meat and milk of cattle infected with this disease were also suitable for human consumption.
