Quashing of FIR against officer demanded

2024-06-11
PESHAWAR: The PMS Officers Association has condemned the recent registration of FIR against additional assistant commissioner Sameera Saba, who was dutifully performing her responsibilities as returning officer (PK-73) during the Feb 8 general elections.

In a press release, the association said the complainant, a former election candidate, chose an inappropriate and legally questionable path by involving the police rather than utilising the established forums for such grievances.

The association said it firmly believed that the assistant commissioner was executing her duties in accordance with the constitutional and legal mandates. `Any disputes regarding her official conduct should have been directed to the appropriate redressal forums designed to handle such complaints. The registration of an FIR in this context is not only a breach of procedural norms but also undermines the established protocols for addressing electoral grievances,` the body said.

The release said the involvement of police in this matter was a violation of the rules governing civil servants. `The assistant commissioner was acting within the scope of her constitutional and official duties, and such actions against her set a wrong precedent. We urge the immediate quashing of this FIR to uphold the integrity of civil service operations.
