PM won`t resign`

2017-07-11
LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will not resign in the wake of the joint investigation team`s repod, says the Punjab government.

`There is no question of the premier`s resignation as he has been elected by the masses. The PML-N was expecting this kind of report since it had strong reservations over the manner the JIT was holding the probe into the offshore holdings of the Sharif family, Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmad Khan said.

Talking to Dawn, he said there had been several question marks on the JIT`s report. `It appears that the JIT`s repon is a narrative of Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan,` he said.

Malik Ahmad does not see disqualification of the premier after the recommendation of the JIT to file a reference against the premier and his children on finding `significant disparity` between the known sources of income and the accumulated wealth of the Sharif family.

`From lifting of cooperative will to tax evasion and money laundering investigation by the JIT, the Sharif family has a strong case against it and we do not expect any adverse verdict from the Supreme Court,` he said.

To a question about the PML-N`s strategy after the JIT repon, Malik Ahmad said: `The party leadership is holding meetings in this regard this week and any decision to hold public meetings or rallies will be finalised by it.`Staff Reporter
