KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by armed robbers in New Karachi in the small hours of Wednesday morning, police said.

New Karachi Industrial Area SHO Mohammed Nawaz Gondal said that Imran Saleem, 25, was sitting with his friends on a footpath in Sector-5-G when three robbers emerged there, held them at gunpoint and demanded their cell phones.

He said that one of the robbers shot Saleem when he put up resistance and refused to give his cell phone.

He suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The victim was a factory worker and had a minor daughter.
