By Our Staff Reporter 2015-08-11
KARACHI: The MuttahidaQaumiMovement withdrew its call for a strike across Sindh on Monday on assurances given by the Rangers director general that the murder of MQM worker Mohammad Hashim would be investigated and his killers would be arrested.

The Muttahida had given the strike call on Sunday night in protest against what it termed Hashim`s `extrajudicial killing`.

Reacting promptly to the strike call, the Rangers asked people to carry on their usual activities andsaid that no-one would be allowed to paralyse the city.

A statement quoted Rangers Director General Maj Gen Bilal Akbar as saying that Hashim`s murder would be investigated.

`Murder of any person is condemnable but no-one would be allowed to paralyse the city life through strike calls. The murderers would be arrested wherever they are,` it said.

About two hours after the Rangers` statement, the MQM coordination committee withdrew the strike call.

It said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain had endorsed the coordination committee`s decision.`The Rangers DG`s statement about arresting the 1(illers of Mohammad Hashim is an appreciable move. The strike appeal has been withdrawn on his assurance for a thorough investigation into the murder and arrest of killers. We will wait when the killers of Mohammad Hashim are arrested,` the statement said.

Hashim, who had been missing since May 6, was found shot dead on July 25 at Jamshoro and buried by the Edhi Foundation as an unidentified victim. He was identified on Sunday with the help of the National Database and Registration Authority.
