Relief package for GB flood victims termed inadequate

GILGIT: The opposition and ruling PML-N members on Monday expressed dissatisfaction over government`s efforts to rehabilitate the nood affected people across Gilgit-Baltistan.

They were speaking during the third session of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly after the PML-N government assumed power. Speaker Fida Mohammad Nashad chaired the session.

Opposition leader Haji Shah Baig claimed the regional and federal governments did nothing for the flood affected people and alleged the GB government was distributing relief to party workers.

He termed recent announcement of relief package by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the flood victims as inadequate.

He said after Ghanche, Diamer was the second most affected district of the region as approached roads, agriculture land and many homes had been swept away by flash floods.

The opposition leader said many villages in the region had been cut off from rest of the country and hundreds of people were without shelter.

PPP member Imran Nadeem accused GB Chief Minister Hafeezul Rahman and the governor of ignoring the real affected people.

Despite requests to the CM and the governor to visit Shigar district, they only focused on Ghanche, he alleged. PTI member Raja Jahangzab said the Rs50 million announced by the prime minister wasn`t enough for the whole region.
