PTCs in most of Mansehra schools dysfunctional

MANSEHRA: Safada village council nazim Basharat Ali has claimed that over 60 per cent of parent-teacher councils of schools in the district are not functional and there is no check on misuse of PTC funds.

`If the government wants to improve education at the public sector schools of the district then it should revitalise over 60 per cent of the PTCs which are dysfunctional,` Mr Ali told mediapersons here on Wednesday. He said that under the Local Government Act 2013 the nazims of village and neighbourhood councils were empowered to monitor activities of the PTCs in their respective councils, but thiswas not the case in the district.

The nazim said that owing to no check the PTC funds were being misused affecting education of the students. He said that PTCs were constituted in all schools, but in most schools they existed only on papers.

Meanwhile, Hazara University vice-chancellor Dr Idrees ordered the start of classes at Oghi campus of the university from next month.

The VC visited the proposed site for construction of the campus at Butti area in Oghi and ordered the planning and development department of the university to ensure that classes were started at the Degree College for Boys. He said that the classes would be shif ted to the campus building on completion of its construction.

The federal government has already approved Rs550 million for the construction of Oghi campus of Hazara University, but work is yet to be started.

Dr Idrees, who was accompanied by of ficials of the tehsil administration and principal ofthe Degree College, Oghi, said that at the first stage classes in management sciences, medical technology and computer sciences would be started and on completion of the campus building other departments would also be opened.

ARRESTED: Kaghan police on Wednesday arrested a man who af ter allegedly killing his fiancée for `honour` had dumped the body at Kunhar River in Kaghan valley.

Police said that the girl, 20, belonging to Kamal Bun area had gone missing about two months ago from her home. A police party led by ASI Ashig Hussain initiated the inquiry on the report of Mohammad Haroon, stated to be brother-in-law of the victim, and arrested one Sabir Hussain.

According to the police, during interrogation Sabir confessed to his crime and divulged that the girl was engaged to him since childhood, but she had now refused to get married with him. Kaghan police have changed sections of the earlier FIR to 302/34 of CrPC.
