SHANGLA: Tehsil Council Alpuri on Wednesday approved Rs425 million budget for the year 2016-17.
Convener Shaukat Ali chaired the meeting, while the budget was presented by tehsil nazim Mohammad Tahir Khan.
The council allocated Rs30 million for payment of employees salaries, and Rs26 million for non-salary purposes of the tehsil municipal administration, Alpuri. An amount of Rs132 million was allocated for development. The council was informed that the provincial government was yet to provide 50 per cent of the development funds in the current budget.
On the occasion, tehsil nazim Tahir Khan said the budget was passed unanimously, and stressed that the treasury and opposition benches should strive in unison for people`s welfare. Councillors Javed Khan, Mazhar Ali, Hussain Ali, Ijaz Kamal, Fazal Khalig and others also spoke on the occasion.
STUDENTS BEATEN: Local residents claimed on Wednesday that some masked men beat up children on way to school in Lelawnai village of Alpuri.
Officials at Alpuri police station said residents of Lelawnai reported that for the last four days masked men beat school going children in different streets of the town.
They said a team headed by SHO visited the area and conducted a search operation in the nearby corn fields but no clue of any such elements was found. They said the police were trying to trace the culprits.
The local people demanded of the government to send a special police team to arrest the masked men attacking students. Correspondent
