NICVD to assist LUH cardiac units

HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Health Dr Sikandar Mandhro has said that cardiology units of the Liaquat University Hospital`s Jamshoro and City branches will be run in collaboration with the NationalInstituteofCardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Karachi, to provide better health facilities to patients and upgrade hospitals.

He said this while chairing ameeting of health officers, including medical superintendent of LUH City branch, in Jamshoro on Thursday.

He said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) had been signed in this regard between NICVD head Prof Dr Nadeem Qamar and LUH`s medical superintendent Dr Abdul Wahab Wadhu.

Under the MoU, the minister said, the NICVD professors would supervise treatment of cardiac patients in the two branches toensure they received the same facilities and treatment as was available in NICVD, Karachi. The Sindh government would soon release funds in this regard, he said.

He said the government was releasing billions of rupees funds for the provision of better healthcare facilities in the province. It was the underprivileged section of society who approached government hospitals in hope of getting better health facilities and forpatients of cardiovascular diseases and other ailments government hospitals were their last hope, he said.

He exhorted the doctors to serve such patients as efficiently and humanely as if they were treating their own family members.

The meeting was attended by NICVD head Prof Dr Nadeem Qamar, Prof Nadeem Rizvi, Abdul Sattar Jatoi, Prof Dr Syed Fasih Ahmed Hashmi and Dr Sharjeel Abbas Dahiri.
