China to bar BD entry

RAWALPINDI: President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto today [Aug 10] said that China will apply veto against Dacca`s entry into the United Nations membership, to secure implementation of the UN resolutions of Dec 7 and 21, last year. Addressing a Press conference here this evening, the President said that the question of Bangladesh`s recognition will not be discussed during the forthcoming session of the National Assembly.

It was earlier projected but it had to be abandoned because his intended meeting with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the month of July did not materialise. He, however, renewed his invitation to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for talks without preconditions. He said, `Our position is based on principles and we believe that the United Nations resolutions must be implemented.` Special representative [Meanwhile, as reported by a staff reporter from Karachi,] Forty-four more persons were arrested yesterday [Aug 7] from various parts of the Province, on charges of anti-State and antinational activities. According to an of ficial handout, out of the 44 persons arrested yesterday one wasfromKarachi,twofromNawabshah,13from Hyderabad and 13 from Tharparkar district.
