Man, woman shot dead for `honour` in Baldia Town

KARACHl: Another case of `honour killing` took place in the metropolis as a man and a woman were shot dead by the brother-in-law of the woman in Baldia Town in the wee hours of Saturday morning, police said.

The Ittehad Town police identified the victims as Mohammed Irshad, 38, and Sonia Tanveer, 32.

They said that they were killed near the Jungle School close to Rana Ground.

The bodies were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that investigators considered the double murder as the crime in the name of so-called honour.

He said that initial investigations revealed that Sonia`s brother-in-law, Mustafa, was involved in the double murder.

The DIG said that victim Irshad was the tenant of deceased Sonia. The suspect managed to escape after the murder and the police were carrying out raids to arrest him.

Two gunned down in guest house Two persons, including the owner of a guest house, were gunned down in Gulistani-Jauhar on Saturday morning, police said.

Area SHO Pir Shabbir Haider said that Muhammad Nasir, the owner of the guest house, and Abdul Salam, 25, were killed and Muhammad Asif and his younger brother Asim suffered injuries at the guest house located in Block 13.

The bodies and the wounded persons were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Victim Asif stated in the FIR that Nasir, along with an armed man, asked Salam about a woman. He also made a video of Salam. Later, the armed man opened indiscriminate fire and fled.
