PPP to challenge NAB court verdict in SHC

KARACHl: Senior Minister Nisar Ahmad Khuhro has said that the Pakistan Peoples Party will challenge the accountability court decision against former minister Syed Ali Nawaz Shah in the Sindh High Court.
Mr Khuhro, who was sharing his thoughts with journalists regarding the verdict against Mr Shah and his two relatives on Thursday, said that the minister`s personality was not controversial as he had never been involved in any crime.
`We all have respect for the accountability court, however, we will contest the decision in the higher judiciary,` he said.
He recalled that PPP leaders in the past too had faced courts. The minister hoped that the high court would do justice with the PPP.
Protests in Mirpurkhas A shutdown was observed in Jhilori town, which along with several other towns of Mirpurkhas district, witnessed demonstrations by Pakistan Peoples Party workers and supporters to protest against conviction of MPA Syed Ali Nawaz Shah, his cousin former federal minister for industries Syed Khadim Ali Shah and nephew Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah in corruption and forgery cases.
MPA Shah, who has served as a senator, federal industries minister and Sindh agriculture minister, was convicted along with the relatives, by a National Accountability Court on Thursday in a scam involving Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) lands.
As soon as the news of his conviction was aired by TV channels, groups of PPP workers and supporters took to the streets to hold protest demonstrations in Mirpurkhas city, Jhilori and Mirwah Gorchani towns, Makhan Samoon village, Belaro village and other places.
The protesters demanded reinvestigation of the LBOD land scam to get hold of the actual culprits.
