50m people in Pakistan fully vaccinated: minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar on Friday said more than 50 million people had so far been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in Pakistan while 20 million had received their first jab.
On the other hand, 83 patients succumbed to Covid-19 and 3,689 more tested positive in the last 24 hours.
In a tweet, the federal minister said: `In the early days of the vaccination campaign we had set a daunting target of vaccinating 7 crore people by the end of this year. Happy to report that 5 crore people have now received at least 1 dose.
He further said more than 20 million people were fully inoculated.`Inshallah will meet & surpass the target,` he added.
Pakistan has administered at least 65,505,999 doses of Covid-19 vaccines so far. Assuming every person needs two doses, it is enough to vaccinate about 15.1 per cent of the country`s population.
During the last week, Pakistan averaged about 1,163,927 doses administered each day. At that rate, it will take a further 38 days to administer enough doses to another 10pc of the population.
Earlier, Asad Umar, who also heads the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), said 35pc of the eligible population in the country had received at least one dose of the antiCovid-19 vaccine.
Giving the province-wise break up in his earlier tweets, he said 69pc ofIslamabad`s population, 51pc of Azad Kashmir`s, 39pc of Gilgit-Baltistan`s, 37pc of Punjab`s population, 35pc of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa`s, 32pc of Sindh and 12pc of Balochistan`s population had received at least one dose.
The federal minister said vaccination targets had been set for the end of Sept for 24 big cities.
On the other hand, the NCOC data showed that 83 people lost their lives to Covid-19, with most deaths occurring in Punjab followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Out of the total, 27 who died were on ventilators.
The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the country was recorded at 91,440 on Friday the highest during the fourth wave of the pandemic.
The national positivity ratio during the past 24 hours was calculated at 6.03pc.
According to the breakdown of casualties, 28 patients breathed their last in Punjab, 16 in Sindh, 25 fell victim to coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, five died in Islamabad and one person succumbed to the virus in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
No death was reported in Balochistan and GilgitBaltistan.
Islamabad, GilgitBaltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir had collectively reported 366 cases and six deaths during the last 24 hours.
According to the breakdown of positive cases recorded during this period, the federal capital reported 254 patients, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 94, while 18 cases emerged in GilgitBaltistan.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa saw 590 people getting infected over the last 24 hours. The provincial tally of Covid-19 cases has risen to 167,154 and the death toll to 5,200.
Balochistan recorded 37 new infections, taking the total number of people so far infected by the virus to 32,517 and the death toll to 342.
Punjab reported 1,705 cases, raising the provincial figure to 410,463.
As many as 36 people died from the virus in the province during the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 12,171.
The country reported 3,755 coronavirus recoveries in a single day, according to the government`s portal thattracksthe spread ofthe disease.
The total number of recoveries has risen to 1,079,867 at a rate of 90.1pc.
According to data, the maximum ventilators were in use in four major cities Multan 70pc, Lahore 55pc, Bahawalpur 47pc and R awalpindi 37pc.
Similarly, the most oxygenated beds were in use in Swabi (78pc), Gujranwala (72pc), Gujrat (63pc) and Multan (57pc).
