LAHORE: A sessions court on Saturday dismissed for non-prosecution a petition seeking registration of a criminal case against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, then chief minister Hamza Shehbaz, interior minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and others on charges of ordering physical torture on the workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) during May 25 `azadi march`.
PTI`s worker Samreen Naz filed the petition saying she and others were tortured by the police near PMG chowk when they were going to join the march of the party towards Islamabad.
She alleged that workers of PML-N also resorted to baton charge on the activists of the PTl with the support of the police. She further alleged that the police personnel snatched her mobile phone and a cash of Rs200,000.
The petitioner asked the court to order the police to register a case against the authorities she nominated in her application.
Additional District & Sessions Judge Arshad Anjum dismissed the petition as neither the petitioner nor her counsel appeared before the court despite opportunities given to them for arguments.-Staff Reporter
