Govt to build settlements for flood victims

DERA GHAZI KHAN: The government has decided to build settlements for flood victims in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts as officials concerned have been told to identify state land in the area.

In addition, a model village will be established on a donated piece of land by some philanthropists.

DGK Commissioner Liaqat All Chatha told Dawn a sum of Rs 4.5 billion had been allocated for both the districts .

He said an adequate area should be identified near flooded settlements.

He said each settlement of more than three acres would have at least 50 houses, market, mosque, park and other facilities.

Meanwhile, philanthropist from Taunsa Sardar Sohail Khan Khetran, son of Sardar Abdul Ghafoor Khetran, has donated 50 kanals of land to residentsof Jalowall village which was wiped out by hill torrents. Villagers have started building their houses on the donatedland.

Talking to Dawn, Sardar Sohail Khan Khetran said it was not a donation but the right of Jalowali villagers.

NOTICE: Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chathahasissued show-cause notices to CEO Health of Rajanpur, chief municipal officer of Jampur and tehsildar over their failure to use fogging machine for dengue, dewatering sets to pump out water and distribution of relief goods among the affected people.

The commissioner who visited Jampur and expressed displeasure when he found warehouses of relief goods locked. He order immediate distribution of goods.

The commissioner said five machine-fitted vehicles were provided by the government but Health CEO Dr. Fayaz did not use the vehicles to eliminate dengue.
