Religious groups protest LoC killings

PESHAWAR: Activists and sympathisers of several religious groups on Friday marched on Sher Shah Road in the provincial capital to condemn unprovoked Indian shelling across the Line of Control.

Major rallies were staged by Jamaatud Dawa and Shabab-i-Milli.

Holding banners and placards carrying antiIndia slogans, protesters demanded immediate end to Indian aggression across the Line of Control.

The Jamaatud Dawa rally was addressed by Ghazi Inamullah, Hafiz Samiullah, Attiqur Rehman Chohan and Sadagat Hussain, while speal(ers at the Shabab-i-Milli rally included Bahrullah advocate, Khalid Gul Mohmand and Hafiz Hameedullah of Jamaat-i-Islami.

The speakers said the firing across the Line of Control was a naked aggression by India.

They said Indian shelling during Eid days was unprovoked and uncalled-for and that it had caused unrest among the people.

The speakers said the undeclared war and repeated attacks by Indian forces on Sialkot Working Boundary was a challenge to Pakistan.

They said before the LoC violations, India had released water in rivers without issuing any warning and thus, destroying public property and crops in Pakistan, especially Punjab.

The speakers said the government had kept mysterious silence on Indian aggression.

They said Pakistan should give a befitting response to India over the LOC shelling.

The speakers said Pakistan had always exercised restraint but India took advantage ofit.

Also in the day, members of the provincial youth assembly staged a demonstration outside the Peshawar Press Club to condemn the killing of innocent people by Indian forces.

They said Pakistani government should ensure protection ofits borders.

`If our forces don`t retaliate, then the situation will worsen,` said chairman of the provincial youth assembly Mohammad Abid Khan Atozai.

President of the assembly Zeeshan Hoti said the government should take note of the Line of Control violations by India and ensure its immediate end.
