ACCORDING to a news item (Sept 28) the Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the Punjab government to ensure compliance of a judgment by the Supreme Court on the private school fee issue in letter and in spirit.
I would like to suggest that in order to protect the citizens` right to access information, the government`s concerned regulatory authorities should direct the administration/owner of every private school through a mandatory notification to display the schedule of fee and other charges in respect of each class on a notice board placed prominently at the gate of the school for parents` knowledge. This should be done to maintain transparency in this regards.
Every private school should also be required to get published their fee structure in newspapers once at least af ter every three months, besides disseminating the same through local TV channels.
These measures will also create a competitive environment among private schools and deter the extortion of excessive fee in effective implementation of the apex court decision in letter and in spirit.
