GUJRAT: The Excise and Taxation Department has issued around 600,000 smart registration cards to the vehicle owners out of the pending 700,000 applications.

Legal issues were said to be the main cause of delay in the issuance of the cards, minister Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmed said on Thursday.

He was speaking to the participants in an open court held at Circuit House. District Excise and Taxation Officer Asif Javed Butt and other senior officers were also present.

He said the government was striving to resolve the issue of delivering pending registration number plates as well as ensuring the delivery of remaining registration cards.

The minister also listened to the complaints and announced that the government had planned to give relaxation to the divorced women in the property tax.

He said open courts would be held in every district on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

The vehicle owners had been facing inconvenience as their applications for the allotment of registration cards and number plates had been pending for the last eight months or so.
