`Ukraine, Pakistan should learn from one another`

ISLAMABAD: The security situation in Pakistan and Ukraine is similar, said Ukrainian Ambassador Volodymyr Lakomov.

He was speaking at a seminar on the crisis in Ukraine organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Monday.

At the seminar titled Ukrainian Elections: What`s next for the KievMoscow Crises?`, the ambassador talked about recent elections in Ulcraine and said they were exemplary in their transparency and turnout. He said elections were held in all of Ukraine except two provinces of the country, where insurgency and tensions with Russia have created a precarious security situation.`Election turnout was at 60 per cent and people over 18 years of age voted,` he said.

President of Pak-Ukraine Trade Culture and Education Centre Wasim Khokhar said relations between Pakistan and Ukraine should be further improved. He also said that there are many opportunities to increase trade between two countries and governments and citizens should work on these.

Member Board of Governors SDPI Shafgat Kakakhel also emphasised that trade between the two countries should be increased.

Participants of the seminar were of the view that both countries should learn from each other because both have been facing similar situation in terms of internal strife and security.
