Modi`s machinations

2016-11-11
I HAVE always been one for peaceful co-existence between Pakistan and India.

However, soon after Narendra Modi took over, I became convinced that there could be no peace between the two countries during Modi`s watch.

The reasons were: 1) Modi won the elections on Pakistanand Muslim-bashing; 2) his cronies have always portrayed him as a macho anti-Muslim, anti-Pakistani characterandhe has tolive up to these expectationsModi has always harboured sinister designs against Pakistan. The list of unfriendly actions by New Delhi seems endless. The most recent provocation is the involvement of eight Indian diplomats stationed in Islamabad in spying activities and their expulsion. Earlier India pulled out of the Saarc summit to be held in Pakistan and also pressured other members to stay away. Then there are countless provocations which continue to date along the Line of Control ample proof that the Indian prime minister is fanning the flames of war.

To date Pakistan has shown wisdom by exercising patience and restraint. However, Islamabad must be prepared, for Modi can resort to even worse. This is the best time for us to wean away from the militant and proscribed outfits that have badly lowered Pakistan`s stock in the international arena.
