`12 power pilferers arrested `

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) apprehended another 12 electricity thieves in raids held as part of its ongoing drive against power pilferers.

An Iesco spokesperson said 11 culprits were caught red handed from Jhelum circle and another from Attock circle.

He said the drive was launched on the directives of CEO Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan, and all the culprits were found to be involved in power theft through direct lines also known as the kunda system and by broken meter security strips.

The spokesperson said FIRs have been lodged against the power thieves under the new electricity (amendment) act.

He said Iesco was committed to taking stern action against power thieves across all five of its regions, and he asked the company`s valued customers to inform them of power theft using Iesco`s new Roshni SMS service.

He said the Roshni SMS service 8398 and the 118 helpline were serving commendably in the entire Iesco region of the Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal and Attock circles. He said the service was receiving a massive response from its users. APP
