47 arrested, over 300 vehicles impounded

ISLAMABAD: Over 300 vehicles were impounded and 47 people arrested in the last 24 hours in the capital, police said on Thursday.

They said search operations were conducted in different parts of the city, leading to the arrest of 47 people on suspicion after they failed to produce identification documents and satisf y law enforcement of ficials` doubts.

They said operations were conducted as part of the city`s security measures.

In addition, the police impounded 296 motorcycles and 10 cars after their drivers failed to establish ownership of the vehicles.

They said the police also arrested 25 professional alms-seekers, adding that the action was taken against people who wander the city in the guise of alms-seekers to collect information for criminals and miscreants.

They said vigilance had been increased in markets, at traffic signals and on avenues to arrest alms-seekers.
