Extensive training for BISEs examination staff

LAHORE: After candidates` complaints regarding `faulty marking` in the intermediate (part-1) examinations, the educational boards have arranged training for paper setters, checkers, head examiners, coordinators, supervisors and officials of confidential press under a phased programme that concluded on Thursday.

Senior officials told Dawn theparticipants learnt how to set and check papers and facilitate the officials of the boards of intermediate and secondary education (BISEs) to compile results.

The three-day training for each category was conducted by educationists and former and sitting BISE chairmen.

Recently, protests erupted across Punjab after the declaration of the intermediate part-1 results where candidates allegedtheir well-attempted papers earned bad marks because of the alleged bad marking.

This prompted the BISEs across Punjab to arrange an extensive training regime for those involved in the examination process.

Prof Chaudhry Muhammad Ismail, Lahore BISE chairman, said the government first held an inquiry into the complaints (of candidates) and `side by side, we planned workshops at the LahoreBISE for the officials from all boards linked with paper setting, checking, rechecking, printing, result compilation, monitoring etc.

The training sessions were attended by arts subjects` 64 paper setters in the first phase in Lahore.

The phase-2, which ended on Thursday, was attended by 75 people f rom the science group. Also, 25 quality assurance coordinators and supervisors were impartedtraining.

The chairman said officers of the confidential press learned the art of avoiding printing errors and how to get composed a paper with a reader-friendly layout. He said during focal groups discussions, participants learned about pre-examinations preparatory arrangements and well-thought and flaw-free mechanism that could attract the public appreciation.

The chairman said headmasters, head mistresses and principals,where examination centres were established, had been asked to supervise the examination process and give their feedback to board officials so as to improve the system.

PU: According to a spokesman for the Punjab University, the examinations department has notified the last date for submission of admission forms and fee of LLB part-I, II and III supplementary examination, 2016 as Nov 25.
