Dir college students rally for teachers` promotion

TIMERGARA: Hundreds of students of the government postgraduate college, Timergara, on Thursday held a rally in support of their teachers, who had been demanding of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to grant one step promotion to college teachers.

The students while chanting slogans against the government reached the Shaheed Chowk in front of the press club.

Divisional president of People Students Federation Fazal Hussain and Timergara college president Malik Adnan were leading them. They also blocked the TimergaraChitral road for some time.

Addressing the rally, Mr Hussain and others said that their teachers had boycotted classes to press the government for acceptance of their demands. They said that teachers had been demanding one step promotion, professional teaching allowance andabolition of biometric system for the last one month, but the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was not giving attention to their demands. They said the teachers had announced class boycott till Nov 16, hampering their studies. They demanded of the government to satisfy the college teachers and accept their genuine demands.

Meanwhile, Pakhtunkhwa College Teachers Association, Lower Dir, during a meeting held at Timergara College asked the government to accept its demands. The meeting was chaired by PCTA president Prof Jamshid Khan.

The meeting announced that the class boycott would be continued till Nov 16. The participants said that lecturers and professors of public sector universities had been given one step promotion while college teachers had been ignored by the government since 2005.

The meeting was informed that they had started a token protest on Oct 30 by wearing black arm bands, but the government did not pay attention.

Meanwhile, a former union council nazim belonging to Jamaat-i-Islami, Bahrawar Saeed, announced to join PTI at a function held at Muranal here on Thursday. Ministerfor sports Mehmood Khan was also present on the occasion.

TWO KILLED: A man allegedly killed his two brothers over a property dispute at Shawa village of Adenzai in the limits of Ouch police station here late Wednesday night.

Police said that one Mohammad Yar alleg-edly opened indiscriminate fire on his brothers Bakht Mohammad and Javid Khan after an exchange of harsh words near their house, killing them on the spot.

The police later raided his house and took his soninto custody.They have registered a case against Mohammad Yar.
