LAHORE: The 14th Visual Arts Degree Show featuring works by 15 students graduating with a masters degree in visual arts was opened at the Zahoorul Akhlag Gallery, National College of Arts, here on Wednesday.

The exhibition was inaugurated by NCA Principal Dr Murtaza Jaffri.

The students touched upon a variety of issues, mediums and techniques to convey innovative ideas reflecting a diversity of approach and expression.

Commenting on the art show, Mr Jaffri said: `With each passing year we add a feather in our cap. As with every batch of talented artists and researchers, the 14th MA (Hons) Visual Art Programme`s 15 students have put in extraordinary efforts to present a conclusion to their two-year study at the NCA.

What the artists tried to convey through their artworks was thought-provoking. Asad Ali Changezi`s premise of work originated from the basic act of painting, the act of seeing a paint-ing and the act of identif ying with it.

Sehr Jalil`s work was depictive of hyper mixed media, limitless, obscure; exploration and engagement were the keys to her works process.

Zohreen Murtaza`s body of work represented a certain state of mind. It aimed to explore a certain feeling, a sense of loss associated with melancholic brooding mixed with nostalgia and memory as tools to some degree.

Abbas Ali`s works were based on the very confrontation between the negative and positive.

Manisha Jiani`s work dealt with transformation of the gallery space through the act of playing with the space itself.

Ahmed Sajjad tried to capture a certain lapse of time in his work which causes everything to change.

Sadia Farooq`s work was the visual representation of zikr.

Zaman Baloch`s work was inspired by the landscape of Balochistan.

Mehreen Niazi`s worl< was inspired by moments which could be remembered through material objects which possessed strong emotional associations.

Almost all the students had tried to come up with novel approaches and innovative ideas through their works.

The exhibition will continue till Dec 15.
