THIS refers to the letter `Islamabad park` (Nov 30) in which the writer has mentioned a hunter with a gun in F-9`s Jinnah Park in Islamabad.

Under SRO 442(I)/80 published in the official gazette of April 28, 1980, `all open spaces, developed or underdeveloped within the municipal limits of Islamabad, excluding the area declared to be the national park under the said ordnance are wildlife sanctuaries.

A wildlife sanctuary under section 20 of the Islamabad Wildlife (Protection, Preservation, Conservation and Management) Ordnance 1979 is an area where `no person shall hunt kill or capture any wild animal or fire any gun or other firearm within one and a half kilometer of its boundaries.

Therefore, it is illegal for any hunter toenter or use a firearm in the F-9 Jinnah Park. The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board is in contact with the management of the F-9 park, which will ensure that there is no violation in future and appropriate action is taken against any hunter caught using a gun or any firearm in the park.
