THATTA: Former Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that it is the job of government functionaries to maintain law and order and not allow democracy to derail.

He told local media persons at Shirazi House after participating in the third death anniversary of Shirazi family`s head Syed Aijaz Ali Shah Shirazi here on Sundaythat the Pakistan Peoples Party hails recent Supreme Court announcement of allowing review of the judgement on case against Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, which culminated in his execution.

The review would unveil many bitter facts and prove that the decision on Bhutto`s case was a miscarriage of justice and an indelible stain on the prestige of judiciary, he said.

He said the controversial trial had great histori-cal significance and it provided a chance to revisit Pakistan`s chequered past that continued to cast an ominous shadow on the destiny of the nation.

He said in answer to a question that terrorism remained a chronic problem of Pakistan and his party had perhaps borne its major brunt in the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, still, the party was not in favour of halting democratic system on this pretext. It was the job of governmentfunctionaries to maintain law and order and not allow democracy to derail, he said.

About Pakistan International Airlines, he said that it was up to the elected government to decide its fate and God willing the future government would be PPP`s.

Referring to term Ladla (favourite) being used widely by media these days, Murad claimed that someone else was Ladla in 70s but Bhutto won the election. The PPP wouldfield candidates in all constituencies and on all seats in Thatta and Sujawal districts and would sweep general ele ctions, he said.

He said earlier while addressing a gathering of party workers and Shirazi family`s disciples affiliated with PPP that the population of twin districts was wholeheartedly loyal to the party and they had pinned great hopes in the party and the Shirazis.

`Time will prove all ofus will remain steadfast under the PPPs nag and leadership of Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in order to continue to serve masses, he said.

He said that people of Thatta loved late Aijaz Shirazi unconditionally and Shirazi group would emerge successful in general elections.

Murad praised unparalleled political and social services of late Shirazi and other members of his family.
