ACCORDING to media reports, Sindh University is home to about 10,000 girls, the majority of whom come to the university from f ar-flung areas. I salute the commissioner of Hyderabad who exposed the negligence of the university`s authority.
The anti-harassment committee has been for a long time nonfunctional as many incidents were reported in the past but the police did not arrest any suspect nor did they expedite the investigation process.
The Sindh government must take ef fective measures in this regard. Ef forts should be made to reactivate the committee formed long ago to take notice of the harassment of girl students on the campus. This committee should be alive to the grievances of girls. It should work under the district administration and the police.
