Education in Singapore

2017-01-12
A SURVEY done recently by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to assess the quality of education available to 15-yearold students in 74 countries revealed that some Asian countries have done very well.

The top 12 countries were: Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Finland, Estonia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, Poland, and Vietnam.

The OECD`s educational director stated that this was the first time they had a truly global scale to compare the quality of education in various countries. The three core subjects tested were maths, science and reading.

Singapore`s high ranking was owing to the f act that the government`s expenditure on education is top priority amounting to 3.9pc of GDP. Teachers` salaries are at par with other developed nations. This role model should be followed if Pakistan is to achieve excellence in education.
