Altaf: Karachi`s future

2017-01-12
THERE is a strong perception that Altaf Hussain is anti-Pakistan af ter his speech last year. Neither the media nor state functionaries are ready to accept his apology issued after the speech from London.

My question is: if this is so, then why is the state afraid or reluctant to move against him on these charges and is more interested in the division of his party? It is claimed that most workers and office-bearers in Pak Sarzameen Party have gone against him for fear of arrest because there were serious charges against them. This is the case with the MQM (Pakistan) also. There is a ban on Altaf Hussain`s speeches and pictures, although many top lawyers, including Aitzaz Ahsan, are of the opinion this is wrong under Article 19 of the Constitution.

With the MQM divided there is no guarantee of peace even after the census.

Unless a level playing field is provided to all political forces, including Altaf Hussain, the dream of peace will remain a dream.
