Moot warns against removal of Islamic articles in Constitution

LAHORE: A multi-party conference here on Thursday resolved that any attempt to abolish Islamic articles in the Constitution on `foreign pressure` will be resisted strongly, deciding to launch a country-wide campaign to protect the Khatam-i-Nabuwat law and honour of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Speakers at the conference on Khatam-iNabuwat and Al-Quds issues held by Jamiat Ulema Islam stressed that all parties should unite on national and Islamic issues and force the government to refrain from `acting on the advice of foreign masters`.

They sought a proper strategy to protest on roads and oust the rulers, who they saidhad f ailed to protect properties and lives of the masses.

The speakers lambasted the Punjab police and the government for killing innocent people during a protest following rape and death of seven-year-old Zainab in Ka sur.

Through a unanimous declaration, the political and religious parties that participated in the conference demanded that the Raja Zaf arul Haq committee report should be made public and those trying to amend the Khatam-i-Nabuwat law should be exposed and punished.

`If those involved (are) not punished, the masses will themselves come out on roads and stage protests and sit-ins,` the declaration said.

The conference demanded that Law Minister Rana Sanaullah should behad f ailed to protect properties and lives of the masses.

The conference demanded that Law Minister Rana Sanaullah should beremoved from his office for `favouring Ahmadis`. It also demanded that all Ahmadis working on top government positions should be removed and banned for such appointments in future.

It demanded that the chapters containing Islamic history and Quranic verses, which were removed f rom syllabus, should be restored immediately. Teaching of Quranic verses along with translation should be made compulsory in schools.

On the occasion, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed said Nawaz Sharif had ruined Pakistan`s economy and added that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was also busy in squandering national wealth through kickbacks and commissions.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur saidthe nation should come out on roads and drag rulers out from the corridors of power, otherwise the Kasur-like incidents would continue happening in the country.

He stressed that all political and religious leaders should stand united on Khatam-i-Nabuwat issue.

Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi said the Khatam-iNabuwat bill was passed but it could not be signed. He demanded those who drafted the amendment to the Khatam-i-Nabuwat law should be exposed and punished to set an example.

He chided the federal government for removing the religion column from identity card.

Maulana Samiul Haq, PTI`s Ejaz Chaudhry and others also spoke on the occasion.
