Trader leader arrested for bid to grab fectory

TOBA TEK SINGH: A PML-N local leader, a former deputy mayor and head of his own faction of Anjuman Tajiran of eight bazaars of Clock Tower Faisalabad, Amin Butt, and his two accomplices were arrested on the charge of attempting to occupy an embroidery unit of a trader located near the Lyallpur Revenue Housing Colony.

Complainant Ahsan Bilal, the owner of Ahsan-Mohsin Embroidery Factory, claimed in the first information report (FIR), that previously the same suspects had unlawfully grabbed his two factories in the past at the behest of his maternal uncle. Now, he added, Butt and his eight accomplices againbroke into his unit by scaling its wall and snatched a gun from the watchman to occupy his unit; however, he and his relatives reached there and foiled their attempt.

Police arrested the main suspect and two others.

Meanwhile, Amin Butt and his both accomplices were produced before a judicial magistrate on Tuesday and were sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand.

MURDER: A man was murdered over a monetary dispute at Nai Abadi of Chak 257-RB, Faisalabad.

Muhammad Atif (44) was standing at a cigarette shop when Muhammad Rizwan, with whom he had quarrelled a day ago over a monetary issue, opened fire on him, injuring him critically.Atif succumbed to his injuries when he was being shifted to the Dijkot Rural Health Centre.

KIDNAP: A girl had been kidnapped at Chak 345-JB, Gojra.

Complainant Allah Rakhi told Nawan Lahore police in her FIR that Rafiq and his five accomplices forced their entry into her house and abducted her daughter Sughra Bibi (17).

Also in Chak 279-JB, Gojra, 16-year-old, Kashaf, was allegedly kidnapped by Ali Raza of Chak 311-JB and his accomplices. A case was registered on the complaint of her uncle Abdul Rahman.

BUS FIRE: The National Highway and Motorway Police rescued all 40 passengers of a Peshawar-Lahore bus when it caught fire due to an electricshort-circuit near Sheikhupura interchange on Monday night.

Motorway police spokesperson said the fire was extinguished by the policemen.

FTO: Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Dr Asif Mehmood Jah visited the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) and held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Dr Rauf-i-Azam.

The FTO explained the functioning and importance of his office and apprised the VC of the complex tax disputes resolved in his tenure. During question/answer session, the discussion revolved around the taxation issues of salaried people and particularly double taxation in terms of full income tax deduction at the source as well as deduction of withholding taxon various forms of spending from the already taxed income.

Furthermore, the matter of discontinuation of tax rebate on the salary of teachers and researchers also came under discussion and the FTO assured that concerns of the academic community shall be resolved.

Dr Jah talked about the justice delivered by the office of the FTO and emphasised his commitment to transparency, fairness and accountability in taxation matters.

Dr Rauf said double taxation on income of salaried people was proving to be a big burden which, coupled with the discontinuation of tax rebate granted to the teachers and researchers, was proving to be a serious demotivation for the community.
