Police nab captors, recover Rs7.5m

KASUR: B-Division police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested eight suspects who kidnapped a man for ransom some days back, and recovered Rs7.5 million.

Police said the suspects had kidnapped Sheikh Farhan of Khara Road on Nov 6, 2024, and demanded Rs15 million from his family for his release.

Farhan was freed a few days later after his family paid the ransom. On Tuesday, police recovered Rs7.5m of the paid amount and returned it to Farhan.

DPO Essa Khan formed a special team to track down the culprits. Using modern techniques, including geo-fencing and cellular data analysis, the team identified a 13-member gang and arrested eight suspects. Those taken into custody include Imran Pada, Ghulam Ali, Usman, Murtaza, Ali Raza, Muhammad Hussain, Faisal and Zahid Sultan.

In the latest development, police added Section 7 of theAnti-Terrorism Act to already lodged criminal case of kidnapping for ransom.

Police say efforts are under way to arrest five other suspects and recover the remaining Rs7.5m.

THIEF ELECTROCUTED: A suspected thief was electrocuted while stealing cash from the money box of village mosque on Tuesday at Jodh Singh in the limits of Pattoki police station.

Following repeated thefts, the mosque`s prayer leader had connected live electric wires to the iron donation box placed at the mosque`s entrance.

According to police, the deceased identified as 20-yearold Muhammad Tanvir of the same village, was found dead with one hand inside the box.

Police suspect the victim was an addict.

Meanwhile, the prayer leader fled the scene after the incident.

Police completed legal formalities and handed over the body to the family. Further investigation into the matter is under way.
