Scouts to be involved in tree plantation drive

SWABI: Speakers at a ceremony here on Tuesday said that Boy Scouts would be involved in the ongoing tree plantation drive in the district.
The ceremony, organised by the education department to launch tree plantation drive, was attended by DEO Abdus Salam, EDO Adil Mohammad, Boy Scouts Secretary Murad Ali, principals, headmasters and senior physical education teachers.The speakers said that forest officers should provide additional free plants to the students. They said that a strategy was calked out to plant more than 20,000 saplings in different areas, especially in public sector schools.
The DEO said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had decided to plant more plants in public sector educational institutions to provide clean and calm environment to the students.
`The Scouts would play a leading role in the plantation drive. I have directed the offi-cials, Scouts and physical education teachers to play their due role in this regard,` Mr Salam said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Adil said that the heads of educational institutions would assist Scouts in the plantation drive.
The role of physical education teachers was critical because they could put the Scouts on a right track, he added.
KILLED: A woman was shot dead allegedly by her mother-in-law in Thano village in Chota Lahor tehsil here on Tuesday.
Nisar Ali, the brother of the deceased woman, told police that his sister Shabana Zahid, whose husband was aboard, was killed by her mother-in-law with the help of her daughter when she was busy in work in their house.
The cause of the incident was stated to be some demotic issues.
Police said that none of the women, nominated in the FIR, was arrested. They would be arrested soon as they could not abscond like men, they said.
