Central Kurram battlefield turns into playground

PARACHINAR: A cricket tournament was held in central Kurram after restoration of peace in the region organised by the political administration and the Pak Army.

The final match of the tournament was played between FC 114 wing and Small Danish teams at Doger cricket ground the other day, which was won by the latter by five wickets.

Once the central Kurram was considered as a sign of fear and terror and no go zone but now peace has prevailed af ter sacrifices of Pak Army personnel and local people in the war against militants.

The security forces in collaboration with the political administration have initiated several healthy activities and cricket tournament was one of them. About 84 teams from all over Fata participated in the tournament. The final was witnessed by hundreds of locals, elders, FC Commandment Colonel Arshad Javid, former MNA Munir Orakzai and Muttahida Q aumi Party chairman Habib Malik Orakzai.

The winning team was awarded with a trophy and a car while both the team were also given cash prizes of 50,000 each by Habib Orakzai.

Talking to Dawn, Colonel Javid said the law enforcement agencies were not only busy in operations against militancy but also paying attention to restoration of peace and sponsoring healthy activities for tribal youth.

Habib Malik appreciated the steps taken by LEAs, saying that due to sacrifices of security personnel the Doger area in central Kurram had been cleared of militants. Several development projects for welfare of local tribes have been initiated in the area, he added. Correspondent
