Cache of weapons found by labourers in park at Surjani

KARACHI: A cache of rusted arms and ammunition was recovered from a park in Surjani Town during digging by labourers on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said that the digging was under way in Sunrise Ground located on L-1 Sector for developing a walking track by the union committee.
The UC staff informed the police, who rushed to the spot and recovered five sub-machine guns, one light machine gun, 10 magazines and a huge quantity of bullets.
The recovered weapons would be sent to a lab for a forensic analysis, the officials added.
Suspect shot dead in `encounter` A suspected robber was shot dead in an alleged encounter in Surjani Town on Tuesday morning, police said.
SSP-West Tariq Illahi Mastoi said that some muggers were looting passers-by on a road in Sector-36. A robbery victim informed a police patrol, which reached the spot and challenged the muggers.
He said that the criminals resorted to firing in their bid to flee. In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect was arrested in wounded condition while his accomplice managed to escape.
He said that the suspect was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead. His identity could not be ascertained till late in the night.
The police claimed to have recovered a pistol, spent bullet casings, two snatched cell phones, a purse and one motorcycle from him.
