LAHORE: The Punjab Auqaf Department has started compiling lists of unregistered shrines and collecting data about their custodians and caretakers.

Recommendations for legislation to check the activities of fake pirs and faith healers were also being finalised in accordance with a decision taken by the cabinet committee on law and order last week in the wake of 1(illing of 20 people at the hands of a fake faith healer in Sargodha.

`The Auqaf department monitors all kinds of activities at the 522 shrines registered with it. Even data about visitors and donations is compiled by the officials deputed there,` said a source on Tuesday.

A proposal to take administrative control of all the shrines might be considered after compiling lists of all unregistered shrines operating on private land in almost every city and town.
