I WANT to draw the authorities` attention to the pathetic condition of buses used to ferry Karachi University students to and from the campus. Besides their run-down state there is a shortage of vehicles as well.As a result, students are forced to travel in a miserable state. Every journey is more like cattle being taken to an abattoir.
There are no more than 30 buses to cater to the 28,000 KU students. Popularly called points, most of these buses have seen their best days a long time ago.
Now a journey on a point bus is a nerve-shattering event. Students are forced to hang on to footboards with the more daring ones even sitting on the vehicles` roofs to obtain an education at Karachi university.
Dozens of students have lost their lives after falling from overcrowded buses in the past few years. The number of those who suf fer injuries is even higher. I urge the university authorities to increase the number of buses.
