Water supply project for three UCs approved

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Planning and Development Department has approved water supply project worth Rs350 million in Khekashan Colony, Adiala Road, Dhama Syedan union councils (UCs) and adjoining areas falling in NA-52 of Rawalpindi just three months before the expiry of this fiscal.

However, the project aimed might not be completed this fis-cal year.

Under the project, nine tube wells will be installed in the union councils. An underground water storage tank and overhead water tank would also be constructed to store the water from the tube-wells.

The funds are likely to be released within a week and the work will be started by April end.

The land procurement will be started soon after getting the funds but the selection of the site already been com-pleted.

A senior of ficial of the district administration told Dawn that the project was lying with the planning and development department for the last six months for the approval but the department was busy in answering the questions of the National Accountability Bureau and the meeting was not held in the last two months.

He said that the project was important as it was recommended by the former interior minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan.He said Divisional Development Working Party had already given approval to the project and recommended to the provincial government to start the work in previous year so that the people would get the facility in coming months.

He said that the district administration asked the Water and Sanitation Agency to start the work without any further delay so the work of tube wells would be completed within a month.
