KARAK: A journalist, who was shot dead by unknown attackers here on Saturday, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Mithakhel area on Sunday.

Waseem Alam was shot dead in his home town by unidentified assailants late on Saturday evening, the police said.

People from different walks of life, including political figures, members of civil society and journalists, attended the funeral prayers.

District police officer Tariq Habib Khan has directed the Karak police station SHO to trace the culprits at the earliest after his mother lodged FIR against unknown killers.

Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held at the Karak Press Club with its president Khalid Khan Khattak in the chair.

The meeting expressed concern over the murder of the journalist and demanded early arrest of the killers and protection to mediapersons.

They demanded of Chief Minister Mahmood Khan to award Shuhada Package to the family of the deceased as he was its sole bread winner.-Correspondent
