Girl drowns in underground water tank in Naseerabad

RAWALPINDI: A five-year-old girl, who had been missing since Thursday, was found drowned in an underground water tank in an under-construction house in Naseerabad, police said on Friday.
Haniya, daughter of Kamran Butt, a resident of Naseerabad, was playing outside her house when she went missing, following which her parents launched a door-to-door search but could not find her.
In his statement, Kamran Butt said his daughter Haniya went missing from outside her house. Later she was found drowned in an under-ground water tank in an under-construction house in their neighborhood.
He told the police that his daughterfell in the water tank accidentally and died; therefore, he did not want to proceed with a case against anybody. Later the child was laid to rest in a local graveyard on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a man was shot and injured during a mobile phone snatching attempt in Dhamial area.
Mohammad Waqar Ali, a resident of Girja Road, lodged a complaint with the police saying that he was on his way to a market when he was intercepted by two unidentified persons at the corner of the street. He said he was shot and injured by the two suspects when he refused to give up his mobile phone.
Initially, the injured man was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) and later moved to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) where he was stated to be in stable condition.
