KARACHI: Mayor Wasim Akhtar said on Thursday that alternative routes would have to be provided to heavy traffic so that vehicular congestion on city roads could be minimised and commuters did not face hardships.

Talking to a delegation of transport operators, he said that a comprehensive traffic management plan — keeping in view suggestions from the transporters and other stakeholders and the legal requirements — would be prepared and submitted to the Sindh High Court on Saturday.

He said that owing to movement of heavy transport vehicles on main roads vehicular congestion increased leading to traffic jams, etc, while the public transport as well as private vehicles and other road users not only faced hardships, but their time and resources were also wasted.
